“Senator, what is “good enough” – Dave Duffy
A forum featuring Gen. Keane (Ret), Sen. McCain and Sen. Lieberman disccused Afghanistan beyond 2011. Warfare Center editor in Chief LTC Dave Duffy (Ret) was there to ask the question that is on the minds of many of our SF brethren.
Daves question is 43.04 min into the forum.

I think holding on to strategic portions of Afghanistan in order to maintain airbases, apply pressure on Iran, Pakistan, etc. as well as provide a relatively remote place for AQ and other like minded organizations to clash with US forces would be beneficial indefinitely, or at least for the foreseeable future.
Not to mention that perhaps pulling out the bulk of general purpose forces and allowing a local solution to work its way out with USSF to provide a combat advisory role to the national government might actually lead to a sustainable long term solution. At the very worst however, we end up with the strategic location for a relatively sustainable cost.
