Duffy Sends 19 Dec 2011 – Unity of Command?

I chose this blog post on the split world of the MISO (nee Psyops) community.  Being an SF guy, I know firsthand the importance of Psyops in support of all the SOF mission sets, in particular UW.  Subversion is a critical method to sway populations away from supporting the targeted government.  Heck, USASOC HQ is named after GEN McClure, one of the fathers of Psyops.  USACAPOC was all consolidated in the SOF ranks until Sec Def Rumsfield felt the need to remove it, part of his campaign to have SOF strictly kinetic as everything else was a distraction.  USASOC took advantage of the opportunity to shuck itself of the reserve forces (the bulk of Psyops) while keeping the active Bn and branch proponency.  Now USACAPOC works for FORSCOM and there … Read entire article »

December 15th, 2011 | Add a Comment I chose this article as I was surprised but not shocked to learn GO/FO community is growing while ranks are getting slashed. I hope this trend gets reversed soon as each GO/FO seems to come with their own bureaucracy in the form of accompaning staffs. This “Brass creep” I believe stems partially from commands and services seeking increased stars for relative power amongst the services and greater power for commands. This has to help against budget cuts and BRAC. However, given the austerity measures that are coming, seems that DoD would be wise to get the ratios of stars to troops back to pre GWOT levels at least.
